About the Art
Familiar but different.
Each of Chris' pieces are creatively bold and always unique expressions of familiar sights. His current collections of Cityscapes and Wine are whimsical and colorful and have a clever way of suggesting a view while inviting you to use your own creativity and imagination as you explore what you see. His images emerge from the canvas with the many layers of bold colors and architectural elements - revealing hints of deep color and form below. The surface texture is created by using very thick applications of acrylic paint mixed with a gloss gel medium which helps create an almost translucence quality in places. The paint is applied using large pallette knives and almost any other tool to create deep rich carved-in texture. Since the surface texture cannot be duplicated, each piece is absolutely unique. His pieces are generally large in size and impact -- making a daring statement in any space. Chris shares, "I enjoy using vibrant, bold colors applied in an almost reckless manner. This process is often an emotional one in which I experience both fear and excitement. Fear because I may ruin what I've spent a great deal of time creating and excitement because in nearly every instance the final result turns out better than I expected."
